Based on the real legend of the "miraculous
stairway at the sisters of Loretto Chapel in
Santa Fe, New Maxico. The Staircase is an
inspirational, life-affirming drama of hope and
faith. Mother Madalyn's (Barbara Hershey) last
wish is that her beloved but unfinished chapel
will be completed. Sister Margaret (diane Ladd)
would do anything to make Mother Madalyn's wish a
reality, but the project seemshopeless. When the
local carpenters built the chapel, they neglected
to erect stairs up to the choir loft, and due to
the confines of the chapel's construction, adding
a staircase is now impossible. The arrival of Joad
(William Petersen), a mysterious stranger, may be
the asnwer of Mother Madlyn's prayers, but Joad
faces overwhelming odds. The task defies the laws
of architectures and the town's corrupt
businessmen want to ensure that the staircase is
never completed. Compassion and hard work may not
be enough to make Mother Madalyns dream come true
- it's going to take a special kind of miracle.
